As part of the Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence’s Signature Leadership Series, the Health Research & Educational Trust, in partnership with the AHA, created a guide called Striving for Top Box: Hospitals Increasing Quality and Efficiency, which showcases three health care systems and what each did to improve quality and efficiency.

AHA’s Physician Leadership Forum and the American Organization of Nurse Executives will host a special post Health Forum Leadership Summit session on achieving team-based health care delivery on Tuesday, July 19 from 11:30 am – 5 pm at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, CA. This complimentary session will feature keynote presenter David Nash, MD, and leaders from Marquette General Health System, AtlantiCare Health System and Brigham and Women’s Hospital discussing innovative approaches to fostering team-based care in the primary care setting, at the inpatient bedside, and in service line management. During a recent session at the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s 2011 ANI, R. Bruce Wellman, MD, chief executive officer of the Carle Physician Group, said three core components are required in order to be successful is this era of health care reform — the right physician leaders, the right executives and the right technology infrastructure.

Wrong site surgery project reports early success
The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare recently announced success in its project to identify and prevent wrong site surgery. Using methods such as Lean Six Sigma and change management methodologies, the Center teamed up with eight U.S. hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers to address this critical problem.
