PwC report on physician-hospital alignment

PricewaterhouseCoopers Health Research Institute recently released the second part of their series on physician-hospital alignment. This new part examines how physicians and hospitals can make alignment work for both sides. The findings come from a survey conducted with 1,000 physicians and hospital leaders on shared governance, compensation, and changing physician practice patterns.

Study: Cost of establishing an ACO significant
The estimated start-up and first-year costs to establish and sustain the core competencies necessary to manage the care of a defined population through an accountable care organization are considerably higher – $11.6 to $26.1 million – than the $1.8 million estimate made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in its proposed rule, according to a new study prepared for the AHA by McManis Consulting.

New report released on team-based competencies

A collaboration of six national health professions associations and three private foundations recently released a report titled, “Team-Based Competencies, Building a Shared Foundation for Education and Clinical Practice.” This report builds on an earlier report developed by the groups called, “Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.”

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awards grants
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, through its Aligning Forces for Quality initiative, has awarded grants of $1.3 million each to 16 communities across the country to help improve the quality and value of health care.

Rural health care networks to share in $12 million worth of grants
The Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) will award up to 40 grants of $300,000 each over the next three years to help rural health care networks become meaningful users of electronic health records.
